When you want to get home in a hurry in World of Warcraft, you use your hearthstone. No traffic. No waiting. Ten seconds and…poof!….you’re back at the inn ordering an ale.
Now, you might think that it requires all sorts of magic and arcane spells to create such a powerful talisman. But that couldn’t be further from the truth! All it takes it two colors of polymer clay, some wire and beads. Oh, and a key chain or ring of course!
Here’s how to make one. Preheat your oven to 275 degrees and work on a clean flat baking sheet. Start with white polymer clay. I have used Sculpey (but any brand, such as Fimo or Craft Smart, will work.)
Cut a small amount off the block, create a circle, then an oval, then flatten and shape that hearthstone on a baking sheet. It should end up about 1/4 inch thick. I traced the spiral into the stone, but you can skip this step if you don’t need a reference.
Next, take a tiny bit of aqua polymer clay and roll a thin strip. Place the strip in a spiral pattern on the white stone.
Smoosh it gently in place with, flattening it with your fingers.
Use a toothpick or some other tool to create a hole for stringing the pendant. (I used the back end of a plastic paintbrush.)
Bake the bead in your pre-heated oven at 275 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Do not over cook it, or the white clay will eventually start to yellow or brown.
Once your bead is ready, make the key chain elements using wire and beads.
I used heavy 20 gauge wire and made secure loops with multiple wraps for security.
I made two different beaded wires, using various shades of aqua beads to complement the aqua swirl in the hearthstone bead. Make as many or a few as you like.
You can attach your finished beaded wires to a hoop or to a key chain. Either kind can be found at your local craft store; usually along with the jewelry making supplies.
In World of Warcraft, we know you work hard. Not only do you have two professions, but you are also busy being heroic and doing favors for every NPC across the land. And if that wasn’t enough, you’ve also gotta gank those flagged players that are unlucky enough to cross your path!
So it’s no wonder that when the work day ends and it is time to get back to the inn for a nice bottle of ale and a soft bed (or hammock) you do not want to sit in traffic. That’s where this little beauty comes in! 10 seconds and you’re home.
